Amazon Dev Center India (ADCI) is seeking a highly distinguished, system-oriented Senior Software Development Engineer to spearhead our Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL database engine practice across engineering centers in Bengaluru and Pune. Operating within the AWS Utility Computing (UC) organization, this hands-on technical leadership position owns the architectural evolution of hyper-scale cloud relational storage, driving performance innovations that serve hundreds of thousands of users globally.
Key Responsibilities & Scope of Work
- Core Database Architecture & Design: Own the high-level design and engineering of significant cloud-native systems software components critical to our industry-leading database platforms.
- Query Optimization Engineering: Act as a primary subject-matter expert in the query optimization domain, resolving low-level relational processor and query compiler execution bottlenecks.
- Hyper-Scale Storage Orchestration: Architect highly scalable distributed relational database systems deployed across thousands of servers spanning multiple global datacenters.
- Performance Optimization & Tuning: Solve unscripted technical challenges at every layer of the stack linking to extreme concurrency control, multi-tenant caching layers, and high-throughput systems internals.
- Full SDLC Engineering Governance: Enforce strict standards across the full development lifecycle, managing build pipelines, code quality frameworks, source controls, and live cloud service operations.
- Innovation & Intellectual Property: Champion cutting-edge database research, patenting new technical frameworks and representing AWS engineering at global database technology conferences.
- Technical Lead Mentorship: Act as an elite technical mentor and tech lead, executing detailed architectural reviews and upskilling senior engineering cohorts across the division.
Required Qualifications & Technical Stack
- Professional Experience Track: Minimum of 7 years of non-internship professional software engineering experience, combined with at least 5 years leading the design, scaling, and architectural pattern mapping of legacy or cloud-native distributed platforms.
- Educational Background: Holds a valid Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or an equivalent technical discipline.
- Core Technical Toolkit: Masterful systems programming proficiency in at least one software language (such as C++, Java, or Python) combined with a deep, practical understanding of PostgreSQL database internals.
- Leadership Profile: Proven history operating successfully as a Tech Lead or Principal Mentor, managing cross-functional technical dependencies, and translating customer needs into scalable cloud strategies.
