Amazon Dev Center India (ADCI) is seeking a creative and system-oriented Software Development Engineer II (SDE II) to join our elite Digital Catalog team in Chennai, Tamil Nadu . This high-visibility role centers on designing, development, and scaling core transactional web services and high-scale workflows that support the global publishing, purchase, and delivery of premium digital media contents across Kindle EBooks, Amazon AppStore, Amazon MP3, and Amazon Instant Video platforms .
Key Responsibilities & Scope of Work
- Full-Lifecycle Software Engineering: Deeply analyze, design, code, test, and deploy resilient, high-scale customer-facing digital applications and backend web services with minimal or zero defects .
- System Design & Architecture: Apply robust object-oriented principles, microservices designs, and proven software design patterns to configure fault-tolerant architectures optimized for long-term scalability and reliability .
- Operational Excellence & Pipelines: Take proactive ownership of standard team on-call support activities, track system health metrics, manage build pipelines, and execute optimizations to meet internal Op-Ex reduction goals .
- Technical Direction & Innovation: Provide sound technical leadership across engineering cohorts to influence long-term product architectures and cross-team integration paths across the Digital Content Platform organization .
- Quality Governance & Automation: Drive automation testing strategies and establish rigorous code delivery guidelines, implementing coding standards, code reviews, and source control parameters to maintain low technical debt .
- Team Mentorship & Agile Leadership: Act as an engineering anchor within agile sprints to directly guide, coach, and elevate the performance of junior development squad members .
Required Qualifications & Technical Stack
- Professional Experience Track: Minimum of 3 years of non-internship professional software engineering track record, combined with at least 3 years explicitly focused on designing or scaling enterprise-level cloud platforms .
- Educational Background: Holds a valid Bachelor’s degree or equivalent technical credential. A specialized degree in Computer Science is strongly preferred .
- Core Technical Toolkit: Masterful backend programming command in at least one modern general-purpose language—such as Java, C++, or C#—backed by deep object-oriented design maturity .
- Preferred Qualifications: Operational familiarity managing the full software development lifecycle, including structured code reviews, version control systems, build processes, and cloud-native service testing .
- Core Soft Skills: Exceptional analytical reasoning, strong problem-solving attributes, a high motivation to deliver business results, and great technical communication properties .
