As a Support Engineer III, you will join the Support Tools & Automation (STA) team, working closely with software engineering, product management, data engineering, and cloud platform teams to ensure highly available, reliable, and scalable systems supporting Amazon's global workforce.
This position is ideal for professionals with strong expertise in AWS Cloud, SQL, Python, Linux, ETL, Automation, Technical Support, Cloud Infrastructure, and Distributed Systems who enjoy solving complex production issues while driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide advanced production support for business-critical Benefits Experience & Technology platforms.
- Own customer issues from initial investigation through complete resolution.
- Troubleshoot complex software, cloud infrastructure, database, and application issues.
- Collaborate with Software Engineering, Product Management, Data Engineering, and Platform teams to resolve technical incidents.
- Support AWS-based data platforms including Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, Amazon Redshift, and NoSQL technologies.
- Develop automation solutions to improve operational efficiency and reduce manual support activities.
- Write and optimize SQL queries for troubleshooting, reporting, and data analysis.
- Develop scripts using Python, JavaScript, or similar programming languages.
- Support ETL pipelines, data onboarding, account provisioning, and data access management.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement preventive solutions.
- Participate in architecture and design reviews for highly scalable cloud systems.
- Monitor production environments and improve system reliability through automation.
- Create technical documentation, SOPs, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
- Drive operational excellence initiatives and continuous service improvements.
- Collaborate with globally distributed teams supporting enterprise-scale applications.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or related discipline.
- 2+ years of experience in Software Development, Technical Support, Support Engineering, or related roles.
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging experience for distributed applications.
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python, JavaScript, Ruby, or similar.
- Strong SQL skills including joins, aggregate functions, window functions, and query optimization.
- Excellent analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Hands-on experience with AWS services including Amazon S3, AWS Glue, Lake Formation, Amazon Redshift, Lambda, or similar cloud technologies.
- Experience working with Linux operating systems.
- Knowledge of ETL pipelines and Data Engineering concepts.
- Experience with CI/CD automation and deployment pipelines.
- Understanding of Data Quality Management and cloud monitoring tools.
- Experience supporting REST APIs, JSON, XML, distributed systems, and web services.
- Knowledge of Infrastructure Operations, System Administration, and Cloud Applications.
